BUBCA II System

SETUP INSTRUCTIONS FOR BUBCA I AND BUBCA II

Remove netting from can and set aside.

The BACK…has the lid hinge to the left with no rods attached to it.

Caution: Use care whenever moving the telescoping rods!!

When extending or contracting rods PLEASE move approximate 2 sections at a time and not by the top. This can cause bending and breakage. These telescoping rods are custom made specifically for this device. Breakage is possible if you attempt to move too many rod sections at once especially on retraction.

EXERCISE CARE as this is the heart of the system and is inspected for fit and function prior to shipment.

  1. Remove the container lid if you prefer.
  2. Rotate the rear rod 90 degrees horizontally, then rotate the L Bracket to the back. Extend the rods 36" for BUBCA I and 24" for BUBCA II, (the rods are 48" long when extended fully) using caution not to pull too hard as they can break. They fit into the rear corner just beyond vertical on two axis (the side & rear).
  3. Rotate the front rods up past vertical and into position but do not extend yet.
  4. Open the netting and place around the rear support rods while resting the inside of the backstop top on the tips of the rods. The Backstop is the Outer Most part which places all 4 rods inside the backstop.
  5. At each end of the netting there are loops that fit over the front rods. Do so while extending the front rods until they are up with the tip of the net, near the tip of the rod at each end, 26" or 34" respectively.
  6. Place the long plastic coated wire through the top tips of each rod, on OPPOSITE CORNERS where there is a 3mm hole. This forms an X under the top netting and forcing each support rod into their respective corner. Right front and left rear, left front and right rear supports.
  7. Smooth out the netting and adjust the support wires while placing the bottom of the net outside the can and the small lip at the bottom back inside the can.
  8. If weather dictates or OPTIONAL: Now install the four rod supports (cotter pins) through the base of the vertical rods and the can. Install the support braces at the base of each front to rear side telescoping rod.
  9. Device is ready to suck up your brass.
  10. Place unit with respect to shooter and the firearm ejection line. Each firearm line, weapon height, shooters height, and length and angle of ejection is different, so you must locate the correct proximity to the net for each individual person and firearm. Typically the distance ranges around 12" or so.
  11. Take a few shots and move your spot according to the ejection path until you hit the effective area. This is a HUGE Funnel and you will find your sweet spot quite quickly.

Disassembly is in the reverse order….DO NOT FORGET to use CAUTION when contracting the rods and rotating them into the can.

TIP: Leave the backstop on the front telescoping rods (at the base) and fold them into the can. The backstop will only need to be pushed up...saving you time and keeping the assembly extremely fast. See video.

If there is not a shooting bench or it is too low for the ejection path of the casing…attach a tripod to the already available mounting hole at the mid point of the can bottom. It will accommodate a camera tripod and can be placed on the ground or on the bench for extreme height. You may have to remove the can lid for balance.

Sometimes the weather doesn’t accommodate us and the wind really blows. Put some weight into the can for anchorage. I personally carry all my ammo in the can along with my safety glasses and hearing protection. There is plenty of room with the brass in the can.

A critical change has been made for BUBCA that will pin the support rods set in their respective corners as required. This is also available for retrofit to earlier BUBCA's, where the shipping expense is on the owner. However, if you are mechanically inclined you may perform the fit yourself. Using Caution not to weaken the support rod with a hole too large or not centered properly. The size is defined by the cotter pins now used to lock the rod in place.

The next critical change for BUBCA has now been made. Now included with all BUBCA Systems is the rod support brace that is placed at the base of the telescoping support rods front to back on each respective side locking them in place.

The Extreme Wind Table Clamp and Components has now been added to the available parts list as an option, that will fit any BUBCA for the purpose of locking the system to the table during extreme wind conditions (commonly found at Camp Perry National Matches). The wind system has been tested in 30mph winds and has passed without issue. Photos are provided on the website showing the components.

The X Horizontal Supports are the new upgrade for both BUBCA brasscatching Systems I and II. No longer needed is the previous horizontal supports that run through the netting at the left/right front tip to left/right rear tip along the sides, and along the rear top of the backstop. The "X" update are two plastic coated supports that run from the top of the left rear rod tip to the right front rod tip and right rear rod tip to left front rod tip respectively. This bracing update now supports the horizontal telescoping rods into each their own corner firmly.

Just another BUBCA system improvement that we continuously re-evaluate so the consumer gets the best product available to the shooting industry.
